A graduate from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (IEP) with a degree in economics, Jean-Philippe Thierry joined GPA Assurances in 1978, which he chaired from 1989 to 2000. In 1989, he joined Worms & Cie as Managing Partner, and became Chairman of its Executive Board in 1997. During that time, he was also Chairman of Athena Assurance.

In 1998, he joined Generali France Group and became its Chairman in 1999.

Mr. Thierry was Chairman and CEO of AGF from 2001 to 2009, and a member of the Executive Board of Allianz SE from 2006 to 2009.

Mr. Thierry was Chairman of the French Federation of Insurance Companies (FFSAA) from 1996 to 2007. He is a French Foreign Trade Advisor of France (CCEF) and became Vice Chairman of the Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel (insurance and bank control authority) in 2010.

Mr. Thierry is a an Officer of the Legion of Honor, a Commander of the National Order of Merit, a Knight of Agricultural Merit and an honorary member of the Institute of French Actuaries.

Mr. Thierry joined the PPR board in 2006.
